The graphic shared in the name of the Chief Minister’s statement on the Durgapur rape case, attributed to ABP Ananda, is fake, verified by Bangla BOOM.

The fabricated image, which carries the logo of ABP Ananda, falsely claims that the Chief Minister said: “If Bengali rapists have the power, let them try to rape me.” The viral post uses the channel’s branding and Mamata Banerjee’s photograph to spread misinformation.

However, Bangla BOOM has confirmed that the graphic is fake. ABP Ananda Digital’s editor Biswajit Chatterjee verified to BOOM that “the graphic is fake. No such post was ever published by ABP Ananda.”

A reverse image search revealed that the original photograph of Mamata Banerjee used in the viral post actually appeared in a legitimate ABP Ananda graphic about her visit to North Bengal during heavy rains. Visual analysis also showed several discrepancies—such as mismatched shades of red in the logo and headline—that confirm the viral image was doctored.

No credible news outlet has reported Mamata Banerjee making any such remark. The viral post is a deliberate attempt to malign her image amid the ongoing Durgapur case, in which three accused—Sheikh Firdous, Sheikh Riazuddin, and Apu Bauri—were arrested following the alleged gang rape of a second-year MBBS student from Odisha studying at IQ City Medical College on October 10.
