BCCI to Honour Five ICC Trophy-Winning Teams at Delhi Annual Awards 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for a major celebration of what many are calling a golden era of Indian cricket. At its upcoming Annual Awards ceremony on March 15, 2026, in New Delhi, the board will honour five different Indian teams that have won ICC trophies across various levels within roughly a year.

A rare phase of dominance

BCCI Annual Awards 2026

In less than a year, India has captured as many as five ICC titles across men’s, women’s and age-group cricket. This sustained run of success has prompted the BCCI to bring all these champion teams together under one roof for a joint felicitation.

The current phase is being described as a virtual “golden age” for Indian cricket, beginning with India’s title triumph at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. That landmark win set the tone for a run of global successes that followed.

Key ICC trophy wins to be honoured

According to board sources, the following achievements are set to be recognised at the Annual Awards:

  • India’s victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is widely regarded as the starting point of this dominant phase.
  • The Indian women’s team’s triumph at the Women’s ODI World Cup, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who guided the side to a historic title win last year.
  • The India Under-19 men’s team, which clinched the U19 World Cup and reaffirmed the depth of talent in the country’s cricketing structure.
  • The India Under-19 women’s team, which also became world champions within the same period, further underlined the rapid rise of women’s cricket in India.

Taken together, these victories represent unprecedented consistency and excellence across levels and genders for Indian cricket.

All five champion teams to be invited

BCCI sources have indicated that all five ICC trophy-winning Indian teams will be invited to the awards function on March 15. They will be formally felicitated and honoured on stage as part of a special segment during the ceremony.

Alongside these honours, the BCCI will also present its regular annual awards to players, officials and other contributors to Indian cricket. The event, therefore, is expected to be both a celebration of recent success and a recognition of long-term service to the game.

Shift from Mumbai to Delhi for logistical convenience

Traditionally, major BCCI functions and celebrations are often associated with Mumbai, the board’s headquarters. However, this year the Annual Awards ceremony has been shifted to New Delhi.

Reports suggest that the move has been made primarily to accommodate the schedules of players participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With many top Indian and international cricketers already moving around for franchise commitments, Delhi has been chosen as a more practical and central venue at this stage of the calendar.

Celebrations kept low-key after Bengaluru incident

In the recent past, the BCCI took the decision to suspend large-scale ‘victory parades’ after a tragic incident that occurred in Bengaluru during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title celebrations involving Virat Kohli’s IPL team. Since then, the board has opted for more controlled and secure formats of celebration.

Following India’s subsequent global title wins, including the women’s ODI World Cup and other ICC tournaments, there were no full-scale public parades or citywide celebrations. Even after Suryakumar Yadav’s India side lifted a major trophy in Ahmedabad, the celebrations remained relatively restrained.

Recently, the ICC only conducted an official photo shoot with the world champion Indian captain, instead of hosting a larger public event. According to reports, more elaborate celebrations have been consciously reserved for the BCCI’s own Annual Awards function—the upcoming ‘Naman Awards’ ceremony in Delhi.

What BCCI officials are saying

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the board intends to recognise both senior and junior cricketers at this year’s awards. This means that age-group world champions and established international stars will share the same stage, reinforcing the message that every level of Indian cricket has contributed to this golden period.

It is also understood that the board will use the opportunity to present its annual performance-based awards on the same day, making March 15 a landmark date in the recent history of Indian cricket.

Symbol of a golden era for Indian cricket

From the Champions Trophy 2025 to the women’s ODI World Cup and multiple Under-19 World Cup triumphs, India’s recent run of ICC titles has showcased not only star power but also the strength of its pipeline. The combination of senior and junior success, in both men’s and women’s cricket, has few historical parallels in the game.

By bringing all five ICC trophy-winning teams together at the 2026 Annual Awards in New Delhi, the BCCI is looking to send a clear message: Indian cricket is in the midst of a rare and historic phase of dominance, built on a wide and sustainable base of talent.

For fans, the event will stand as a formal recognition of what they have already sensed over the past year—the emergence of a truly golden era for Indian cricket.
