Bengal Football Team Felicitated by CM Mamata Banerjee After Santosh Trophy Win

West Bengal’s victory in the 2024 Santosh Trophy is a major milestone for Bengal football, reigniting hopes for the sport’s revival in the state. In a thrilling final, Robi Hansda’s last-minute goal secured a 1-0 win over Kerala, bringing the coveted trophy home.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee honoured the team at Nabanna, praising the players and coach Sanjay Sen.

She announced a Rs 50 lakh financial reward from the state sports department and plans to offer the players jobs in the sports department for financial security. “This trophy represents Bengal’s pride,” she said.

The victory, West Bengal’s 33rd Santosh Trophy title, marks a new chapter for football in the state.
