BJP national general secretary cum Bengal minder Sunil Bansal along with co-minder Mangal Pandey, criticized the party’s (Bengal) state unit on Saturday for failing to meet its 1 crore membership target, even after a 15-day extension. Reportedly, Bengal BJP has not even reached 30 lakh members yet.
The official drive ended on November 30, but Bengal received an extension until December 15 at the request of state chief Sukanta Majumdar, citing delays. Bansal and Pandey urged leaders to intensify recruitment or risk sidelining.
State spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya refused to disclose the details, calling it an internal matter. A senior BJP leader said that, the 1 crore target now seems impossible, with central leaders unhappy about the party’s performance in several districts. Only Majumdar’s South Dinajpur is said to have exceeded the 1 lakh mark.
