The CID has issued a summons to Arjun Singh, former Barrackpore MP and BJP leader, regarding a Rs 4 crore financial fraud investigation. Singh, who previously served as chairman of Naihati Co-operative Bank and as the chairman of Bhatpara municipality, has been instructed to appear at Bhawani Bhawan on November 12th at 11 AM. The allegations of financial irregularities emerged during his tenure, prompting the CID to take over the probe and issue the summons for questioning.
The timing of the summons, coming just days before the Naihati bye-election on November 13th, has led Singh to accuse the state government of launching “politically motivated” actions against him. However, Somnath Shyam, AITC MLA from Jagatdal, dismissed these claims, citing previous arrests in the case, including that of Singh’s nephew, Pappu Singh, who was detained in 2021 for allegedly obtaining fraudulent loans with fake work orders.
