The West Bengal Intelligence Branch (IB) has issued a high-security alert ahead of today’s inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha. The alert has been shared with Police Commissioners, district Superintendents of Police, and officers from the STF and CID. It follows intelligence inputs from the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) and Subsidiary MAC (SMAC), warning of possible terror threats targeting religious and crowded sites across the State.
The advisory specifically highlights the risk posed by Pakistan’s ISI, which is allegedly planning attacks on political leaders, religious figures, places of worship, public gatherings, and strategic infrastructure like police, military, and railway assets. Coastal and border regions, as well as major pilgrimage centers, have been flagged as vulnerable zones requiring intensified vigilance.
This heightened alert comes as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, key ministers, senior bureaucrats, and spiritual leaders assemble in Digha for the temple’s grand opening. Security arrangements have been significantly tightened across the coastal town and other sensitive areas in Bengal.
Meanwhile, senior Kolkata Police officials, including Commissioner Manoj Verma, have convened strategy meetings with divisional commanders. Law enforcement has been instructed to monitor political gatherings closely and increase patrols at major religious landmarks across the city to ensure public safety during this sensitive period.
