For the first time, the CPI(ML) (Liberation) has reached an electoral agreement with the CPI(M). In the upcoming West Bengal by-elections for six assembly constituencies, the CPI(M) has ceded the Naihati assembly seat in North 24 Parganas to Liberation.
In Naihati, the candidate from Liberation will be Debjyoti Majumdar. Nearly half a century ago, the Naxalites led by Charu Majumdar broke away from the CPI(M) to form a separate CPI(ML). After many developments over the past 55 years, this agreement marks the first time that Liberation has allied with the CPI(M) in Bengal. Abhijit Majumdar, son of Charu Majumdar, serves as Liberation’s current state secretary.
