Howrah Station to Get Additional Platform

Howrah Station, the largest in the country, currently has 23 platforms. However, with the increasing number of trains, many are often kept outside the station due to limited platform space, causing delays for passengers. To address this, railway authorities plan to add a 24th platform.

Howrah Station began with six platforms in 1905, expanded by nine in 1984 and reached 23 platforms by 2009 after a new terminal was built in 1992. Platforms 1 to 16 are at the Old Complex, with platform 16 used for freight, while platforms 17 to 23 are at the New Complex.

This additional platform is expected to help accommodate the growing number of mail and express trains. While the exact opening date remain undisclosed, sources indicate it could be operational at the start of the new year.
