A powerful explosion occurred near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, 10 November 2025, killing eight people and injuring around 20 others, according to Delhi Police and official media reports.
The blast took place around 7 p.m. near a traffic signal close to the Red Fort Metro station, setting several vehicles on fire. Videos from the scene showed thick plumes of smoke and bystanders rushing to rescue the injured. Fire and rescue teams reached the site within minutes and transported victims to Lok Nayak and LNJP hospitals.
Preliminary investigation suggests the explosion originated from a Hyundai i20 car parked near the crossing. Police have detained the vehicle’s registered owner for questioning. CCTV footage shows a masked individual near the car moments before the blast, now being traced by multiple investigation teams.
Authorities have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sections of the Explosives Act, confirming the case is being handled as a potential terror-related incident. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Delhi Police Special Cell have jointly taken charge of the probe.
Home Minister Amit Shah has assured a “transparent and time-bound investigation,” while Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and directed agencies to provide full support to victims’ families.
Security has been tightened across Delhi, with special alerts issued for railways, airports, metro stations, and crowded public areas. Officials have urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified visuals or rumours online.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility. Investigators are analysing explosive residue and reviewing regional linkages to determine the source and motive behind the attack.
