The Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) has been named the top state-run medical college in eastern India by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for its contributions to medical research, scoring 7 out of 10. CMCH will host a three-day ICMR research workshop starting December 12, as directed by the Union Health Ministry.
Four city medical colleges participated in the evaluation, which considered research activities, project completion, journal publications, complaints and use of central funds. The government has announced a grant of Rs 1.25 crore for CMCH. SSKM Hospital ranked second, while RG Kar and NRS Medical Colleges also participated.
