The selection process for the 2025 Academy Awards is underway. Among 89 songs and 146 soundtracks shortlisted worldwide, is Imon Chakraborty’s song “Iti Maa” from the film ‘Putul’. This is the first time a Bengali singer’s song has made it to the Oscar race.
Imon’s competitors include Lady Gaga, Sir Elton John, Miley Cyrus and Ed Sheeran. She was reportedly shocked when she learned the news while shooting for a reality show.
Already recognized as one of the top singers in the country, Imon downplayed expectations of an Oscar, saying, “I don’t expect that much.”
Judges will vote for 15 songs and 20 soundtracks. The preliminary vote will take place on December 9, with the initial list announced by December 17. The final selection will follow.
