The number of bisons is increasing in the Patlakhawa forest of Cooch Behar, according to reports from the Forest Department. Officials have noted that as a result, herds of bisons are occasionally leaving the forest and entering nearby human settlements.
Recently three bisons that had strayed from the Patlakhawa forest were seen roaming around the Pundibari area, causing concern among some residents of villages near the forest. In response to the situation, the Forest Department has initiated heightened surveillance in areas adjacent to the forest to monitor wildlife movement.
