Indian Judiciary’s Colonial Mindset Persists: BJP MP & Ex-Justice Abhijit Ganguly

BJP MP and former Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Ganguly recently expressed concerns about the Indian judiciary, stating that it still harbors a “colonial mentality.” This sentiment echoes criticisms from opposition parties regarding the judicial system. What is significant is that, the criticism comes after IPC (Indian Penal Code) having been replaced by BNS (Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita), as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion.

Ganguly shared his thoughts in an interview with the Bengali publication of the RSS. He also claimed that two judges from his former workplace were involved in “serious misconduct” during their careers. Additionally, Ganguly highlighted the issue of judicial delays, pointing out that wealthy individuals can quickly resolve their cases with top lawyers, while the poor often face unresolved cases due to a lack of interest from judges.
