Kolkata Airport Metro Service to Start Soon

Kolkata’s airport metro link is set for a trial run in December 2024, with full operations expected by March 2025. The 7-km route from Noapara to Jai Hind (Airport) station is part of the Yellow Line’s first phase, which will eventually link Barasat to Kolkata. Metro officials announced that 250 fire doors are being installed, and work on stairs and platform flooring at Jai Hind station is complete. Installation of travelators will begin soon, and the firefighting system is awaiting state fire department’s approval.

This metro link will connect to the existing network, providing airport access through the Noapara interchange to three major lines: Blue Line (New Garia-Dakshineswar), Green Line (Sealdah-Sector V) and Orange Line (Ruby-New Garia). This project will improve travel for both city residents and visitors, offering a direct metro link and reducing reliance on taxis. The Airport Metro Link is a key step in modernizing Kolkata’s transport system, with full operation set for March 2025.
