Despite boasting a record 9.3 crore passengers over the last five months, Kolkata Metro has announced a Rs 10 surcharge on tickets for the last train at 10:40 PM on either direction starting December 10, citing low ridership during late hours. The surcharge, which applies uniformly across all ticket prices, has sparked discontent among commuters, many of whom have already criticised a recent reduction in top-up bonuses on metro cards from 10% to 5% without prior notice.
