Kolkata’s Solar Dome: India’s 1st Renewable Energy Museum

The Solar Dome, a joint initiative by Hidco and WBSEDCL, recently opened its gates at Eco Park in New Town, Kolkata. The key features include a 27m-high dome with solar panels that can generate 180KW electricity, interactive exhibits on climate change and renewable energy resources, humanoid robot and 6 Curio robots to guide visitors. The galleries exhibit displays on climate crisis, lost species, hydropower, geothermal, wind energy etc. Vision theatres and gaming zones have been included as well for an engaging experience. Mentionable displays are the Smart city model and a Tesla e-bicycle replica.

The museum comes with a café on the top floor and a gift shop with solar-powered items.

The purpose of the museum is to raise awareness about climate change and sustainable solutions.
