New Twist in Haryana Police Tragedy: Cop Dies by Suicide, Alleges Corruption by Slain ADGP Y. Puran Kumar in Final Video

A new twist has jolted the investigation into the alleged suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, following reports that another police officer has killed himself — and in his final video and note, lodged fresh accusations against the late officer.

Kumar, who served as an Additional Director General of Police, was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot. In an eight-page note, he named 16 senior IAS and IPS officers, alleging “compounded caste-based discrimination, relentless mental harassment, and public humiliation” that drove him to take the extreme step His widow, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, has filed complaints to amend the FIR to include all named persons and has challenged what she calls diluted sections under the SC/ST Act.

In a dramatic follow-up, ASI Sandeep Lather of Rohtak camera cell—who was part of the team probing corruption allegations linked to Kumar—was found dead at Ladhot village. He left a note and video alleging that Kumar was “corrupt”, and claimed the latter’s death was motivated by fear of exposure. He even called for a probe into Kumar’s and his family’s assets. His accusations also extended to systemic corruption, transfers on caste lines, and blocking of honest officers.

The twin deaths have stirred public outcry, political pressure, and demands for a comprehensive and transparent investigation. Haryana’s government has placed DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur on leave and removed SP Narendra Bijarniya, both named in Kumar’s note.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Chandigarh Police has been constituted to probe the case.

Questions now swirl over whether these are isolated tragedies or signs of deeper rot within the police hierarchy. With accusations expanding and reputations at stake, many are watching closely to see whether the probe delivers justice — or merely deeper wounds in an already battered system.
