Norway is hosting an event in Oslo from November 17 to 22 to support the UN’s gender equality initiative. Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool’s All India General Secretary, has been invited, though his attendance is uncertain. The event, featuring Norwegian Parliament members, officials, and business leaders, will focus on women’s empowerment and may also foster trade and investment between Norway and India.
Abhishek has been a long-time advocate for women’s rights, notably calling for the harshest punishment in the R.G. Kar case and supporting the “Night Occupation by Women” campaign for a rape-free society. He also raised concerns over the delay in arresting Sandeep Ghosh, former R.G. Kar Hospital principal, and questioned the CBI’s handling of the investigation. During the Lok Sabha campaign, he promised that women in West Bengal would continue to receive ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ benefits if Trinamool remained in power.
