Several Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on Wednesday night from a black Scorpio vehicle registered to the BJP Panchayat head of Bahirgachi village in Nadia district. The arrests took place during a routine police patrol in the Dhantala police station area, where officers noticed suspicious activity and stopped the vehicle. Upon questioning, it was discovered that many of the passengers were Bangladeshi nationals without the necessary documentation for legal entry into India.
The individuals were arrested on charges of illegal immigration and brought before a local court on Thursday. Authorities confirmed that none of those detained had valid paperwork to justify their presence in India, rendering their stay illegal.
The vehicle, owned by the Panchayat head—a BJP leader—was being used at the time of the arrests, though the details of its use remain unclear. Police are investigating how the individuals came to be in the vehicle and whether the Panchayat head was involved in or negligent regarding the situation.
Police Investigation is underway as they are reviewing CCTV footage, interrogating the arrested individuals and trying to trace their movements and illegal entry. Based on the investigation’s outcome, appropriate legal action will be taken.
