In the December 15 cooperative elections in Contai, which is known as the ‘Turf of the Adhikaris’, the Trinamool Congress had won in 101 seats out of 108, including all 15 director positions, while the BJP secured only seven. This significant defeat occurred despite the main opposition party leading in 13 of the 14 Assembly segments in Contai and Tamluk during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Even the Central Forces were deployed here by SC’s instructions, to ensure a fair election process (as per LoP Suvendu Adhikari’s request).
A senior BJP leader close to Suvendu remarked, “The central leadership has full confidence in the Leader of Opposition. They are aware of why the party is losing ground. However, if this decline continues and is not reversed, his position may be at risk.”
