Terror Plot Foiled: Arrest of Medical Professor Leads to 2,900 kg Explosives Seizure in Faridabad

A major terror plot was uncovered after Haryana Police and central agencies seized nearly 2,900 kilograms of explosives from a rented property in Faridabad, following the arrest of a medical professor from Bengaluru suspected of having links to extremist networks.

According to senior Haryana Police officials, the accused – identified as Dr. Mohammad Junaid, a professor at a private medical college – was detained last week after intelligence inputs suggested his involvement in acquiring and transporting large quantities of explosive material. The discovery led to one of the largest illegal explosives recoveries in recent years.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Junaid had rented a warehouse under a false identity and allegedly procured chemical precursors used in the manufacture of high-intensity improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Forensic teams confirmed the material to be potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and sulphur, ingredients commonly used in industrial explosives.

Sources within the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said the case may have interstate and cross-border dimensions, as initial digital forensics point to encrypted communication with suspected handlers abroad. The seized explosives are being examined to determine whether they were intended for local use or transport to another state.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched further searches in adjoining districts, while Junaid remains in custody under sections of the Explosives Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Officials say more arrests are likely as the probe expands into possible logistical and financial networks supporting the operation.

This development has triggered heightened security alerts in the Delhi-NCR region, with law enforcement agencies intensifying surveillance on suspicious industrial consignments and unregistered chemical suppliers.
