On Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Trinamool Congress would organize block and ward-level protests on 23 December in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Banerjee condemned Shah’s remarks as an insult to Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution’s Drafting Committee, accusing them of betraying Dalit and Adivasi communities. She urged people to participate in the protests, which will take place across Bengal from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. She also criticized the BJP for eroding the nation’s constitutional values and fostering hate and intolerance.
