Over a dispute related to the Awas Yojana, a local AITC worker in Uluberia, Howrah, was tragically killed on Friday, allegedly by his cousin and accomplices. The victim, Samiran Pandit (54), a well-known AITC supporter and the husband of a former Panchayat member, was reportedly attacked near his home with sharp weapons by his cousin, Bikash and others. They suspected that he had influenced the removal of Bikash’s name from the Awas Yojana list.
However, police suspect that the murder may have been linked to a long-running land dispute between the two families. Howrah Rural SP Subimal Pal issued a statement in this regard. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the crime, while the main suspect remains fugitive. The incident caused temporary unrest in the area, leading to the deployment of extra security forces. Trinamool leaders insist that the motive was personal, not political.
