West Bengal is seeking significant investment in its IT and electronics sectors, with two UK-based tech companies, RedoQ and Praeferre, planning to expand in Kolkata next year.

The expansion plans were announced after Babul Supriyo, the state’s IT and Electronics Minister, met a UK delegation in Kolkata on November 18. The delegation, consisting of 17 UK tech companies specializing in AI and semiconductors, is exploring business opportunities in West Bengal and eastern India.

Supriyo expressed optimism about tech sector investments, stating that Bengal is ready to support their growth. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata, emphasized the city’s favorable work environment and skilled talent pool, noting the low attrition rate during the pandemic.

Surya Pratim Mukherjee of RedoQ shared that the company plans to expand its 250-strong workforce next year, while Praeferre’s Sourav Sengupta confirmed plans to start operations with a 40-person team focused on cybersecurity, in January 2025.
