West Bengal, a Top Heritage Tourism Destination as per UNESCO: Chief Minister

On December 2, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced that UNESCO has recognized the state as a top heritage tourism destination, creating jobs for thousands of youths. Speaking in the assembly, she highlighted the state’s progress in religious, heritage and tea tourism.

She mentioned the government’s efforts to develop heritage sites and promote religious tourism, including key locations like Dakshineshwar and Kalighat temples, as well as the upcoming Jagannath temple in Digha.

Banerjee also noted that a tender for a bridge over the Muriganga river in Ganga Sagar Island has been issued to enhance the Gangasagar Mela as a major pilgrimage attraction.
