West Bengal Approves ₹25,000 Crore Investment Across 2,515 Acres in 10 Industrial Plots: CM Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Clears ₹25,000 Crore Investment Over 2,515 Acres in 10 Industrial Zones: Mamata Banerjee

In a major push towards industrial growth, the West Bengal government has approved ₹25,000 crore worth of industrial investment across 2,515 acres of land in 10 designated zones. This move follows concrete proposals received from multiple business groups during the Bengal Global Business Summit.

Announcing the decision after the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized the government’s priority: “Our goal is fast-track industrialization and employment generation.”

Strategic Land Allocation for Industries

The state cabinet has finalized the allocation of 2,515 acres of land under the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) in locations such as Purulia, Durgapur, and Panagarh. The projects will include both direct and indirect investments, projected to create around 70,000 jobs.

According to CM Banerjee, the bulk of the proposals are focused on the steel sector, while 43 MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) companies will receive plots across 15 industrial parks for small and mid-scale manufacturing.

Shopping Malls with Cinema Halls Across Districts

Adding to the industrial announcements, the West Bengal cabinet also approved the development of shopping malls on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in 11 districts including Purulia, Darjeeling, Howrah, Murshidabad, and Bankura. These malls will include cinema halls to promote entertainment infrastructure across the state.

Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee had revealed that several Tollywood personalities approached her with suggestions to revive the cinema culture in Bengal’s districts. Responding to that, the state plans to include film theaters within the upcoming malls.

Importantly, at least two floors of each mall will be reserved for stalls run by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to support local entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment.

Implementation Underway

The chief minister confirmed that while 11 districts have received immediate clearance for the mall projects, the remaining 12 districts are in advanced stages of planning. This initiative not only aligns with Bengal’s development agenda but also brings a mix of industrial, retail, and social empowerment efforts under one unified framework.
