In the Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency, actress Rachna won as an MP for the first time, defeating BJP’s victorious candidate Locket Chatterjee by 80,000 votes. However, a constituency-wise analysis of the voting reveals that Trinamool candidate Rachana lagged behind in Chinsurah, Balagarh, and Saptagram Assembly segments. In the Chinsurah Assembly area alone, Trinamool lost to the BJP by nearly 8,500 votes. But where did things go wrong? Despite so many government schemes, why did voters turn away?
